The vulcanic activity is an effect of Io being in jupiters gravitational hand. The whole body of Io is squeezed by tidal forces of Jupiter. In contrasts, Moon Ganymede comes with his own magnetic field. It‘s the biggest moon in the whole solar system. Moon Calisto is known for it‘s heavily cratered surface. The cratered surfaces of Ganymede and Calisto reveal the dark side of living in the same cosmic neighborhood with a giant like jupiter.
