Description: James Gurney explains how to focus the light on one part of a plein-air painting of a 1962 Chevy Impala. He starts with a casein underpainting and paints the first washes with a limited palette of watercolor, then introduces some gouache passages for the final details. He also demonstrates these effects using a white cube in actual sunlight, blocking some of the light with a cardboard frame, and showing what happens when the sun goes behind a cloud.
