Description: How To Make Mosquito Killer At Home (with Essential Oils) Mosquitoes are the deadliest animals on the planet because of their known status for spreading diseases like malaria, dengue fever for example. Getting rid of them can be difficult. In this video, we will be telling you how to make a mosquito killer at home. Mosquito repellants do not kill mosquitoes but rather, deter them. The active ingredients in commercial mosquito repellants are synthetic chemicals like DEET. Unfortunately, these chemicals can cause negative skin effects like rashes and burns. Therefore, it is safer to make mosquito repellants at home with natural ingredients that are not harmful. Several essential oils effectively repel mosquitoes. These include: Citronella oil Neem oil Catnip oil Soybean oil Lavender oil Tea tree oil And Cinnamon oil However, there are over 3000 known mosquito species, and no essential oil can repel all. The ingredients you use in making your mosquito repellant at home would depend on your location and the species in that area. Here are the steps to make mosquito repellant at home using some common essential oils. 1. Lemon Eucalyptus oil The lemon eucalyptus plant Is a herb that can grow up to 60 feet tall. It has a pungent lemon smell, one of the reasons it is used as a mosquito repellant. Lemon eucalyptus oil contains citronellal. To make a lemon eucalyptus oil mosquito repellant, mix 10 ml of lemon eucalyptus oil and 90 ml of either olive oil or coconut oil, in a spray bottle. Olive oil and coconut oil acts as carrier oils in the mixture. Distilled water or vodka can be added to make the mixture lighter. Shake the bottle to mix the solution. 2. Neem oil and Coconut oil Neem oil is gotten from the seed and fruit of the tropical neem tree. It has a sharp odor that deters mosquitoes and contains azadirachtin, a chemical that repels insects. A solution of neem oil and coconut oil makes an effective mosquito repellant. Add 10 drops of neem oil and 30ml of coconut oil to a spray bottle. Pour a small quantity of warm water and vodka, then shake to mix. Making a neem oil and camphor repellant is also possible. Simply put 4 - 5 camphor tablets in a spray bottle and add neem oil. 3. Tea tree oil and coconut oil A study revealed that tea tree oil is better at repelling mosquitoes than many commercial repellants. In another study, researchers observed that cows treated with the essential oil had a 61% reduction in flies. Fill a spray bottle halfway with tea tree oil and coconut oil. Add distilled water and vodka, then shake to mix the solution before use. 4. Lavender oil and lemon juice Limonene, camphor, and eucalyptus are some mosquito-repelling compounds found in lavender. Also, the sweet fragrance of lavender we enjoy is unpleasant to mosquitoes and will keep them off you. Lemon juice is also a great insect repellant because of its high acidic content. To make lavender oil and lemon juice mosquito repellant: Mix 10 - 12 drops of lavender and 4 tbsps of lemon juice. You can also add 3 tbsp of vanilla extract for a stronger repellant. Mix well in a bottle with some water, and use. 5. Lemongrass oil and rosemary oil Lemongrass oil and rosemary oil are great mosquito repellants. Lemongrass oil has a strong citrusy scent, whole rosemary oil contains camphor and eucalyptol which repel mosquitoes. Add 10 drops of rosemary oil in a carrier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil. Add the same amount of lemongrass oil. Keep the spray bottle out of reach of children. Essential oils and water do not mix well so leave a small space in the bottle to allow you to shake before use. Also, do not use lemon eucalyptus oil for children under three years. Homemade mosquito repellants are both safe and easy to make. Essential oils like neem oil are also good for our skin and can prevent premature aging caused by dryness. Lavender oil is also a natural bug repellant and would get rid of ticks and gnats around the home. I hope you have enjoyed this video.
