Description: Once you understand how cables are made, knitting cables without a Cable Needle (CN) is a skill that will make cable-heavy projects go much more quickly, and allow you to make a cable anywhere, anytime! Lee Meredith helps to make cabling without a Cable Needle (CN) look like something you can do too. This method is easier and more risk-free with a “sticky” wool or a somewhat rugged yarn, rather than a slippery fiber like silk or alpaca. For a right cable without a cable needle, bring the right-hand needle across the front of your work and through the second set of stitches (the front stitches). Work the next two steps smoothly and carefully: Holding your knitting firmly in your right hand, slip the left-hand needle out of ALL the cable stitches, then slip it immediately back into the loose back stitches. (Those stitches will only be loose for a second, as the needle slips out and then right back in.) What used to be the left stitches are twisted in front, on the right-hand needle; what used to be the right stitches are twisted in back, on the left-hand needle. Slip the (front) stitches from the right-hand needle back over to the left-hand needle. Now all the stitches are ready to work in their new cable twisted order. Knit the first set of stitches (the front stitches), then work the next set of stitches (the back stitches).
