Description: Have you ever wanted to write and illustrate a children’s book? Me too. Come along and learn with me as I go through the process of illustrating and writing my first children’s book. In todays video I will introduce the process, and talk about Character development. Each video will have an assignment for you to complete the week it is released. This video is actually step 2 in the process, first you need to come up with a story. Choose one that could be enjoyed by the age group you are writing for. After figuring out what will happen in your story, choose a main character, and describe their attributes and what happens to them in your story. Now it is time to develop them further. Character development is a really fun process where you get to choose the style and form of your main character, as well as how you will create them. Will you use marker, charcoal, watercolor, collage, or digital methods? Tips for character development *Learn from the pros - find illustrators you like and copy some of their illustrations to learn how they created them ( *decide what styles of illustration you are drawn to *figure out what your main character will look like from different angles *draw you main character in a variety of mediums *figure out what expressions your main character will have throughout your story Homework for character development 10 different sketches of your main character (find your medium and experiment with color) 5 backgrounds or other objects that you may use in your book Next week we will be talking about creating a storyboard In the comments below answer the following questions How can I help you with your illustrations? What techniques would be helpful to show? Where would you recommend publishing and or printing a children’s book?
