Description: Learn how to replace a timing belt in a car or truck. This video features a toyota 3sfe engine. however the timing belt changing procedure for any toyota 4 cylinder engine including, toyota 3sge, 3sgte, 5sfe would be very similar to this. These are great engines with a decent torque curve for a economy oriented engine and were commonly used in early 90s toyota corolla, camry celica, sprinter, townace, hiace, lietace, landcruiser and rav4 models. So give it a go by yourself and you'll learn a lots of things about an engine and a must do thing if you're a proper car enthusiast. So learn how To Change A Timing Belt In Your Car. 1. Remove drive belts. (serpentine belts) 2. There are two plastic timing belt covers. Upper cover comes off easily. But the 2nd one is a DIY challenge as the crankshaft pulley is getting in the way. 3. Take off the crankshaft pulley bolt and then the pulley itself. (if you have an impact wrench, that's great, but there may not be sufficient working room to get it in to the bolts. So be prepared to do the hard labor) 4. Once the crank shaft pulley is off, then take out the lower plastic cover. 5. Put some paint marks on to both cam shaft sprocket wheel and the crank shaft wheel and also onto the housing behind each of them. 6. loosen up the tensioner pulley and take out the old belt. (make sure you remember the orientation of the belt before take it out. sketch out on a paper if you cant remember) 7. install the new timing belt in the same orientation and snug up the tensioner pulley back to recommended torque figures. 8. Now you're done. Rotate the engine for atleast 2 full rotations so you can make sure it is running smoothly without any interference. 9. Pray every single god you know and start up the engine for few minutes. (if you haven't change the timing belt before and this to be your first time, then this will be scary but after few jobs, this become nothing) 10. Install the cranks shaft pulley, do the bolt, and put back on all the plastic covers you took and the belts and you all done.
