Helping you to create your ideal aesthetic, they need to be chosen with absolute care. If you’re anything like me, however, you might find that the idea you have in your head is hard to recreate. I tend to develop a very specific notion of what I want each piece of furniture to look like, but sometimes it’s near impossible to find what I desire readymade, especially with a limited budget to take into account. In these instances, I’ve developed a workaround. If I can’t buy what I want, I ask myself whether I can make it, and you’d be surprised at what sort of things you can whip up when you use your imagination. Enter my latest project: the coffee table of dreams! Designed to complement my interior and add a chic and stylish touch to its surroundings, I couldn’t be more proud of how it’s turned out. Here’s how I did it for those who want to give it a go themselves. The first step is a simple one: you need to gather together the materials you’ll use to make your table. As well as the assortment of tools we’ve listed above, this includes two primary components: metal and wood. You’re going to use the metal to create the legs for your coffee table, so make sure you’ve got enough to craft two lots of these and that it’s sufficiently sturdy to stand up to everyday use without rusting or peeling. I personally opted for 50 x 50 iron profiles, which worked well and fit my criteria to a tee. The wood, on the other hand, is going to be used to make your tabletop, so try to select an option that suits the overall aesthetic you’re aiming for, and which is – again – fit for purpose. My own choice was a slab of bursting oak, which looked chic and should last for as long as the coffee table is in use. Selecting the perfect furniture for your interior can be a complex and complicated process, and there’s never any real guarantee that your local homeware store will have what you need. One of the simplest and most effective ways to remedy this issue is to spring into action and make it yourself.
