We want to go shopping, we want to go to a restaurant or we want to relax on a well deserved vacation. Many of us just want to return to our jobs the way we used to do, or start rebuilding what is left of our business, without worrying about risks and regulations all the time. All of that is hardly possible during a lockdown and it dramatically influences our economies, social lives and education. In this video you can see what a lockdown does to city life in The Netherlands. Shopping malls are deserted, parking lots are empty and our main airport is just a shadow of what it used to be. But their is hope on the horizon. Several health experts now believe that the current Omicron strain might be a game-changer that eventually could help us to restore normal life again. Yes, Omicron is much more contagious than Delta, but experts believe it to be much milder than Delta. Right now the number of Omicron infections is exploding on a worldwide scale. Many Western countries like the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Denmark and the USA have seen their number of infections quadrupled during the past week. In general, and for the very unlucky ones, hospitalization will follow within one to two weeks after infection. So I guess within a week from now, we will either see an explosion of hospitalizations, or not. And if that doesn't happen, that could be the start of the ending of this crisis that has been troubling us for 2 years now. Let's hope for the best!
