When she came to learn of the true extent of her husband’s condition she supported him at a number of doctor appointments but there was nothing anyone could do. Due to his condition Mohammad, from Bihar, northern India, cannot find work because employers refuse to hire him. This has left Haseena, who is also raising two sons and two daughters, the main bread winner working in fields or factories earning just enough money to pay then rent on their home and put food on the table. Haseena often feels helpless and sad when she hears people say bad things about him. She admits she wishes she could change his face so that they could live in society with ‘their heads held high’. But she has accepted him and will stay by his side. She says he is her husband, God, and the only one for her.
