Description: Gujarat Gift City: India's $11Bn Mega Project That Will Surpass New York,Hong Kong & London Gujarat International Finance Tec-City s a business district promoted by the Government of Gujarat through a joint venture company. GIFT City is India's first operational smart city in the Ahmedabad. and international financial services centre. GIFT is an operational smart city developed in the Ahmedabad metropolitan region as a greenfield development. The project includes features like a district cooling system, underground utility tunnel, and automated vacuum waste collection. The city is designed for walkability and includes commercial and residential complexes. The project is located on the bank of the Sabarmati River and is around 12 km (7.5 mi) from Gandhinagar international airport. GIFT is easily accessible from all directions through 4-6 lane State and National Highways. A double corridor metro system is planned to connect GIFT City to the Airport and various parts of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The Gujrat International Financial Tech (GIFT) city will be a juxtaposition of townships, multi-speciality Special Economic Zones(SEZs), financial centre and business district which is spread over a sprawling 886 acres of area. Still under construction, it is situated 12 km away from Ahmedabad International Airport. It is being designed at par with global centres such as Shinjuku, Tokyo, Lujiazui, Shanghai, La Defense, Paris, London Dockyards etc. The city is an optimized integration of state-of-art infrastructure and ecological sustainability. Crucial quotients of the environment, waste management and species protection has been taken care of. Mckinsey Market Assessment Report highlights the scope of growth and generation of jobs through such financial hub. This shall also create a conducive environment to increase capital and economic activity. The GIFT city will provide more than an unbelievable 5,00,000 direct and indirect jobs. For this purpose it needs several acres of real estate office and residential space. The Diamond Tower- This will be the tallest building of India with 87 floors reaching upto 400 metres. Designed by ECADI architects, it will be located on Fortune Islands. It has been cut into shapes to shine like a diamond. The Gateway Towers- It will handle the street intersections and will be the main entrance of the city from public view. Inspired from the works of Buland Darwaza it will have terrace gardens and rooftop restaurants. Factors that contribute to this are rooftop garden, usage of non-conventional energy, rainwater harvesting, planning with micro-climatology, and Green buldings. GIFT was conceived in 2007 and the idea was developed initially by a set of consultants such as McKinsey and urban development specialist Fairwood Consultants. It is being planned as a top-notch global financial centre to rival London, New York and Hong Kong. Automated waste collection can be combined with biomass energy generation systems, so GIFT will burn waste to generate energy. Greenfield cities such as GIFT have an opportunity to test new technologies before they are adopted in existing Indian cities. Banks from Singapore, agencies of the United Nations and organizations such as the International Monetary Fund will open offices in GIFT. First phase Two commercial towers, each of 28 floors called the GIFT ONE and GIFT TWO have been finished. Tendering for the next bunch of towers is going on.This phase will also include building up of basic infrastructure. The second phase construction has already begun and the Hiranandani Signature building has been built which hosts India International exchange. The WTC is under construction apart from a couple of buildings as part of the SEZ. The road connectivity to and in GIFT City has increased with the construction of new roads. The entire project is set to be completed by the 2030s.
