In this lesson, we’re going to work on perfecting the use of left & right hand muting technique. Muting is where the guitar strings’ get dampened in some manner. Whether by covering the strings with the palm, (known of as “Palm Muting,”) or by lifting up the fretting fingers, (often called string dampening)… Palm muting is done by using the lower palm area of the picking hand, and String Dampening is done by lifting up slightly with the fretting hand fingers (usually on chord shapes). The result of these muting techniques is a more percussive sound effect off of the strings that are being affected.
