Description: We hope you enjoy this 8-minute film about Global Dialogues. It provides an overview of the GD process and introduces a few of the thousands of people who have made Global Dialogues what it is today. Established in 1997, Global Dialogues aims to promote global public health and societal well-being through integrated, youth-driven solutions fueled by creativity and multidisciplinary partnership. Global Dialogues envisions a healthy, peaceful world in which an empathetic and compassionate humanity flourishes in a spirit of equality and unity in diversity. The Global Dialogues process, steadily expanded and enhanced since the project began 18 years ago, includes five interconnected, mutually reinforcing components: Youth voice & social mobilisation. Global Dialogues outreach teams operating at community level and online engage young people in innovative, participatory activities designed to stimulate and amplify youth voice. In international contests, young people express themselves by creating stories, or narratives, on global public health issues and other topics of crucial importance to our world. Social media for change. Through creative collaboration – or, as we like to say, intercreativity – young people’s stories are brought to life as Global Dialogues films or theatre presentations, made available in numerous languages, and distributed freely at community level, on the Internet and on television, reaching hundreds of millions of people every year. The generation of new knowledge on youth perspectives through narrative inquiry. The stories created by young people in Global Dialogues activities are systematically studied to gain new insights into youths’ thoughts and feelings, concerns and dreams, challenges and solutions. Local and global activism. The Global Dialogues artistic productions, as well as the new knowledge generated through narrative analysis, are applied to improve policy and programmes at multiple levels. Rigorous monitoring & evaluation and open sharing of lessons and outputs. In all its activities, the Global Dialogues team strives to cultivate empathy, compassion and unity in diversity. The essence of Global Dialogues is broad-based, multidisciplinary partnership. Since 1997, the project has focused on generating, maintaining and continually expanding an international network of singularly committed partners and on fostering synergies between them. Young people, and in particular those who are most vulnerable, form the heart of the Global Dialogues team. They are supported by leading specialists in a wide variety of interrelated fields, including: Global public health Empathy & compassion studies Youth voice; social mobilization Social change media; ICT4D Narrative inquiry and analysis Local and global activism HIV/AIDS; sexual health and rights Nonviolence; safeguarding children Diversity and related human rights Cinema and theatre Anthropology, sociology, psychology Languages The project was founded in 1997 by the Global Dialogues Trust (GDT, UK registered charity number 1071484). Representation, expansion and international coordination of Global Dialogues, as well as fundraising/resource mobilization for the project, are the exclusive prerogative of GDT.
