To start the forging on the fancy bushcraft axe Matt first gets his stack forge welded. It is then drawn out and restacked a few times to get the layer count to 150. The preform for the axe is then forged under the Anyang power hammer and then bent to shape using our Harris Torch. The two sides of the axe are then forge welded bringing the layer count of the blade up to 300 layers. Some tricky grinding is applied to get the shape and then it is heat treating in our propane forge and quenched into parks 50 heat treating oil. Afterwards some details are applied and the handle is sanded from a laminated axe blank from Thrane Axe and Saw Mill Company. Is it a Fireman's axe ? Perhaps a carving axe or something else ?!
