Description: Beyond thrilled to share this project with you guys. I grew up watching musicals from the 30s and 40s, and have always been enamored by real old Hollywood movie making. Meaning, they literally had to shoot the thing - yes, they could do some (pretty impressive) post production work, but even that had to be done by hand. Practical sets and effects create something magical. In this video, I had a very specific goal: to shoot food like a musical from the late 40s, the peak of technicolor. One of my favorite movies, Funny Face (1953), has an insane fashion sequence featuring the song, Think Pink, performed by the incredible Kay Thompson (fun fact: she was the author of Eloise, who was based off of her goddaughter Liza Minelli). The sequence is inspired by Richard Avedon’s fashion photography and has been burned onto my brain since I was eight years old. I also took heavy notes on Rita Hayworth’s Cover Girl (1944) and Ziegfeld Follies (1946). My DP, @whatsayayo scoured set photos from the 40s to get clues on how they lit glamor photography. This was too much damn fun to create. Make sure to check out my stories for some BTS on how it all came together! Big shout out to everyone who worked on this.
