Not only can your melodies suffer in these situations, but you may also wind up frustrating yourself even more by attempting to do this without the proper training. Imagine if you had a super weapon in your arsenal that allowed you to quickly make the frustration go away and restore the range of melody that you were lacking - due to those unknown chords. Well you can! I’m going to show you exactly how to accomplish that in this lesson. Every guitarist has experienced tough times performing melody lines or improvised solos over chord progressions that use “non-diatonic” chords, (non-diatonic chords are chords which sit outside of the songs key). When this happens there is one of two scenarios that contribute to this problem. The first is a lack of neck knowledge which prevents you from playing melodies you’d like. The second is if not knowing arpeggios. Not knowing them prevents accurate targeting of chord tones across any non-diatonic chord(s).
