A few are possibly real, but the odds are still against them. Viewers occasionally send one in and ask about it, and I have to tell them that it’s not a genuine photograph, though I hate to disappoint them. However, despite the proliferation of Instagram posts claiming to have real skeletons, it’s incredibly unlikely that a full giant skeleton would ever be found. We would have to have anthropologists, geologists, and paleontologists piece together small bits of bones scattered over a wide area in order to really find the truth. 9: Ancient Roman Giant This is another one of the most legitimate examples of a real life giant that existed in ancient times, and there’s no scientific debate. It’s a valid skeleton. There is no photoshopping going on here! 8: Magellan’s Encounter Ferdinand Magellan was an intrepid, colorful, and occasionally violent explorer who sailed around the world in the early 16th century. Between the years 1519 and 1522, the man sailed with his crew all the way from Spain across the Atlantic, south of South America, across the Pacific, through the Philippines and other islands, then across the Indian Ocean to South Africa and back up to Spain. He was a veritable sailing legend, but he was not entirely sane. 7: Fortifications In Gath Gath, or Gat, was an ancient Philistine city located on land that is today part of modern-day Israel, but over 3000 years ago it was the site of a mighty city-state. Of course, we all know what happened in the Bible at about that time between the Israelites and the Philistines: the battle between David and Goliath. 6: A Chinese Footprint In Guizhou, which is in the remote part of China deep in the southwest of the country, a footprint that measures 22 inches (57cm) in length and 8 inches (20cm) in width was uncovered recently. 5: Giants In Africa Marco Polo, the adventurer from hundreds of years ago who traveled from Europe to China and back, also had a lesser-known adventure in Africa where he found, according to his diary, real life giants who were so strong that they could carry as much as four normal men. 4: New Zealand Giants New Zealand is one of the most remote pieces of land on Planet Earth. It’s no surprise, then, that many people believe that it may have held the last giant hominid species after they had gone extinct on other continents. That’s why in 1934, it was no surprise that a New Zealand newspaper publicized the discovery of human bones in a remote cave that belonged to a seven foot tall (2.1m) individual. 3: Gigantopithecus Blacki Human beings three times as tall as we are today? It’s not something scientists can find any evidence for. Other primates who stood significantly taller than even the tallest man in modern history? Now that is something that remains up for debate. 2: Biblical Nephilim What are the Nephilim? They are alternately described as fallen angels, the descendants of fallen angels, giant humans, animal-like barbarians, conquerors or other mythical creatures. The word Nephilim has its origins in the Hebrew word for “falling” or “to fall”. It could just mean that they were descended from some “other” place. 1: Giants In Ancient America The idea of prehistoric giants that roamed around a nearly-empty American supercontinent is appealing to a lot of people. After all, who wouldn’t like to imagine that long before Christopher Columbus, long before the Vikings, or even before the Native Americans migrated over from Siberia during the last Ice Age, that there were supersized humans wandering around?
