Description: Walk on the Surreal side Anthony’s creations range from the wonderfully named ‘Insectoids’ through ‘Space Invaders,’ and Giant Spiders to ‘Dinosaurs, Giants and Monsters.’ Given the huge range of creations, ranging from a ground crawling space alien to a gigantic spider swinging in an oversized web it will come as no surprise that visitors will encounter sculptures that tower through the trees, crawl over sheds or lurk in the undergrowth to surprise the unwary. Working with recycled materials, as diverse as “abandoned machines, old junk, bits of gnarled wood, stones, and flint,” Anthony creates sculptures that are truly unique and bring both a sense of otherworldliness and humour to the garden. “Using recycled materials is as old as the hills.” the sculptor states, “There is a prehistoric doodle on a piece of chalk in nearby Salisbury Museum and Picasso used a bicycle seat and handlebars to make a bull’s head. In keeping with those artists. I have just used what is available.” Visitors to Anthony’s garden will find creations that are equally at home in neglected hedges and dark, nooks and crannies as well as ponds, hedges and shrubs, Wherever they are encountered on the visit they will elicit shrieks of amazement and broad smiles, bringing the spirit of surrealism to the garden in 3-d form.
