In this video, I pay a special visit to my favorite nature witch Mia Magik to experience an earth magic ritual in honor of Earth Day and Earth Month! In just the past few years, we've witnessed record-breaking temperatures, unprecedented ice melt, and devastating natural disasters. All of these are predicted consequences of climate change and will get worse in the coming years if we don’t take action now. Leading climate scientists say the world must slash its carbon emissions in half by 2030 to avoid catastrophic warming. If we fail to do this, global ice caps will continue to melt, sea levels will continue to rise threatening coastal cities, and natural disasters will become more frequent and more devastating. I recently learned that women’s empowerment and gender equality is actually a key solution to reducing climate change. So how are these two things connected? In a study of 130 countries, it was found that when women are in government positions, they're more likely to sign on to international treaties that are taking action against climate change. That’s one reason why the 2021 priority theme for the UN Women's Commission on the Status of Women is more participation in decision-making for women in public life. If there are two things I care deeply about it’s saving the Planet and women’s empowerment so when I found out how interconnected these two issues are, I wanted to make a video to honor the deep and innate connection women have with Mother Earth to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Month!
