Description: Welcome back guys! Arsenal have completed the signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid. So let’s take a look at the difference the Norwegian midfielder can make to Arsenal’s side. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube A disappointing start to the season saw Arsenal lose their opening fixture to newly promoted Brentford. But with the Gunners agreeing a deal to sign Martin Ødegaard on a permanent deal, I’m going to analyse what he’ll bring to the club and whether he’ll fix Arteta’s creative problems. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: bit.ly/SMDTwitch The 21/22 season has seen Mikel Arteta continue with the 4-2-3-1 and despite handing Emile Smith-Rowe the number 10 shirt, Arsenal are lacking a player to run their attack. They’ve made some smart acquisitions over the past 12 months, adding the likes of Gabriel, Thomas Partey, Ben White and Sambi Lokonga to the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney. Despite a fairly quiet loan spell at the end of last season, the Norwegian would be a shrewd signing. He won’t fix all of their problems, but he will provide a talented playmaker that Arteta could build around. Statman Dave Clips ➡ bit.ly/StatmanClips As much as he isn’t a second striker like Bruno Fernandes or Thomas Müller, Odegaard does offer a threat with late surges - like against Brighton - and from the penalty spot. The latter is something else that was missing from Arsenal’s attack against Brentford. Kieran Tierney consistently got himself into good crossing positions but only ahead crosses on the last line to aim for. Add Odegaard into the mix and you get a cut back option which could have salvaged something against Thomas Frank’s Bees All in all, signing Martin Odegaard doesn’t completely fix the problems at Arsenal but he makes them a much more competitive side when he’s fully fit. Even without the loan experience, his preference to operate from the right channel fits Arsenal’s best team which allows: Tierney to hold the width, Smith-Rowe to occupy the left channel and even drift centrally to link with Odegaard, whilst leaving the right flank for Saka. This setup could also reduce the need for an attacking right back with Callum Chambers or Ben White viable options with Saka and Odegaard ahead. In fact, two of Odegaard’s second assist passes against West Ham were to the overlapping Chambers to cross first time, which reinforces the point. #Arsenal #Arteta #Odegaard Do you think Odegaard can fix Arsenal’s problems?
