But as we get older, we sit for longer periods of time, whether that’s at work at a desk, in the car, or just at home on the couch. This causes our joints to become stiff because and our mobility and flexibility suffers. Lack of flexibility and mobility in the ankles, knees, hips can directly affect your low back. We’re gonna do a test. Spread your feet shoulder width apart and squat down as low as you can go. If you can’t go very far that means there’s mobility and flexibility issues in the hips, knees, and ankles. Picture this, if you're trying to pick something up from the floor but you can’t move past a certain point, guess what you're going to do? Start rounding your low back to pick that object up. Over time, this repetitive forward bending of the low back can lead to lower back pain and even disc injuries such as disc herniations and disc bulges. This is common among people who do heavy labor and people who work out but lack the mobility in their lower body. Practice the deep body squat everyday for 1 - 5 minutes and you'll notice how much more flexible you become.
