Description: In a 45 minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Pavan Verma, who is Prashant Kishore’s close friend and confidant, has revealed extensive details of the understanding and agreements reached between the three Gandhis and Prashant Kishore as well as explain why the talks did not fructify. Mr Verma explicitly and repeatedly said the problem was not Rahul Gandhi and denied that Mr Gandhi distrusts Prashant Kishore and thinks of him as a BJP Trojan Horse. Instead Mr Verma seemed to suggest that the problem was opposition and resistance from other Congress functionaries. In the interview Mr Verma is repeatedly and at times forcefully questioned about the response and position of the three Gandhis to Prashant Kishore’s belief that Congress needs radical change as well as an agreed timeline for when these changes, percolating both downwards and upwards, will happen. He firmly and repeatedly says all three were in agreement with Mr Kishore. He also, initially, says all three were in agreement with each other although later you get the clear impression Rahul differed over the pace of implementation though Mr Verma denies this.
