During my trip to Uzbekistan, on the day we drove from Bukhara to Khiva, we drove right through the heart of the Kyzylkum Desert. Along the way we stopped in the middle of nowhere, at a restaurant called Kizilqum Teahouse (goo.gl/maps/1UZcDHqtKrH2) to eat some desert lamb bbq. The lamb was cut into chunks and prepared kebab style, not cooked with charcoal, but over burning dry desert wood - smelled and looked similar to mesquite. Lamb was delicious, and very natural tasting.
