Description: In late 1999, the sight of this Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk, A29-448, swooping through the air, was still an unfulfilled dream of the original owner, Charles Darby. The aircraft, was a Royal Australian Air Force P-40, which had been operated by number 75 squadron, in the Milne Bay and Goodenough Island areas, of Papua New Guinea, during 1943. Abandoned at the side of the runway after a landing accident, the aircraft was recovered by Charles in the early 1970s, and the full restoration project began in the mid-1990s. This short film shows the aircraft in the final stages of restoration, as described by co-owner, and (then) future P-40 pilot, Garth Hogan. Since its first flight in early 2000, the aircraft has been a favourite on the New Zealand airshow circuit, and is regularly seen at airshows the length and breadth of the country.
