Alejandra Franganillo and Andres Guilarte will talk about the #CubaLibre protests, widely considered one of the biggest anti-government protests in Cuba. After decades of repression and economic suffering, the Cuban people have taken to the streets demanding liberty. They are fighting the tyranny of the communist regime, which has denied generations of Cubans the right to determine their future and strive for prosperity freely. Alejandra Franganillo is a Students For Liberty's Local Coordinator based in Miami, Florida. Alejandra studies political science at Florida International University. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Alejandra is the product of Cuban immigrants; her grandparents left Cuba in the 70s and her father left in 1997. She has lived her whole life through the lens of Cuban heritage and suffering due to the effects of the 62-year-old Communist dictatorship. "I live in Miami, Florida, 90 miles away from Cuba, hoping to see it break from its chains. My connection to Cuba is not only by blood but by heart, as my family has cultivated in me the love for its culture and the dream of a Cuba for all," says Franganillo.
