One such example is, they are used as an active load for driving the other amplifier stages. Issues with the Simple Current Mirror: 1) Moderate Output Impedance 2) Due to channel length modulation, the copied current is not an exact replica of the reference current Using the cascode current mirror, these two issues can be resolved. In this video, the working of the cascode current mirror is explained using simulations. The disadvantage of Cascode Current Mirror: A larger drain voltage is required to keep the MOSFETs in saturation. Because of that, the available voltage swing range for the AC signal reduces.
