Description: A Sliding Compound Mitre saw is a very useful tool to have, whether you are a DIY weekender or a professional wood worker. There are so many on the market these days, and they all do the job but in my opinion, with greatly varied results. I have a saw that is 8 years old as of 2021. It's one of the cheaper brands and in this video I explore options to overcome some of the saws deficiencies. In the end I encountered multiple major problems. One of the issues is the Arbor float or play. This has been with the saw since I have had it and I have always wanted to fix it if possible. Yes the saw is in poor condition. The rust came very fast in fact, even when stored in my shed. I have the benefit of using some high end tools at Studio Dubbeld. A high end quality cabinet making and wood working school/business. In using their saw I quickly noticed how nice the saw works and how accurate it is, and it is not new, being 14 years old and used daily. Note 1; it is not my plan to "throw mud" at the cheaper saws, rather highlight the issues I have found since trying to up my woodworking game. The cheaper saws on many accounts are fantastic for their target buyers being DIY enthusiasts. They often do a lot of what the expensive brands do at a fraction of the cost, however with less accuracy and durability in my opinion. Note 2: I do not recommend trying to fix Arbor Float in the manner in which I depicted. Reason: you do not know what problems are behind the housing, for example, worn bearings/ housings. Cracks etc. Treat my video as a lessons learned on this manner.
