Description: Today I'm sharing what calling a suicide prevention hotline is like and what to expect when you call. This is my personal experience and as the month of September, Suicide Awareness Month, is right around the corner, this topic has been on my mind lately. Mental health is so important and suicide is something that could be talked about more openly without judgement and negative stigma. I think if more people shared how they were honestly feeling and were able to talk to someone who would actually listen, more people could be helped. With suicidal thoughts, from my personal experience, it's something I felt ashamed of. I felt like it was something I needed to keep to myself and just appear to be doing well when I'm around other people. That is the biggest lie about it --- keeping it to myself only hurt me more. Talking to someone helped me get further help and be where I'm at today. I'm alive. And I'm still working through things but I'm here, now. If you're struggling, please reach out to a hotline and don't be shy. Calling the suicide prevention hotline in itself can feel terrifying, but once you do, it's actually very pleasant. In this video, I say that it's like having a free therapy session. You're not alone in this and things can get better with other's help. If you're suffering, don't keep it to yourself, please let other's know.
