Description: Have you ever wondered what is involved in building a locomotive? In this video, we return to the Siemens Mobility rail equipment assembly plant in Sacramento, California to examine the construction of the new ALC-42 locomotives that are being built for Amtrak's long distance passenger train fleet. I was invited by Siemens Mobility and Amtrak to document the completion of the first locomotive, engine number 300, as well as what it takes to build an ALC-42. I talked with Armin Kick of Siemens Mobility about the assembly process as well as some other details on the Charger locomotive series. We'll follow the locomotive construction through all the major steps of assembly - from initial frame and fuel tank fabrication through final assembly and testing.
