In this video, I’ll cover two of the best shapes on the neck – especially if playing a solo is new to you! Many guitar players make the mistake of learning large in position 7-tone full range scales. Those scales are too large for a beginner to build good phrases and are better for down the road. Beginners, who are new to soloing typically spend too much time practicing big in position scale shapes. Those shapes can be more of a problem down the road rather than a benefit. If all that a player uses are big scale shapes without first gaining the natural “feel” for playing lead lines, (which comes easier through learning smaller shapes) a guitarist will typically end up feeling held back. This lesson covers the famous “Box” and “Triangle” neck patterns. These shapes are incredible, and they’ll get you playing a solo right away! You don’t even have to be a beginner to benefit from them. In fact, many intermediate and advanced guitar players will also develop better solos by using them.
