We haven't had a new Mac line introduced since Apple killed the iBook and introduced the MacBook way back in 2006, so you can see how big a deal this is to Apple themselves. First, it's powered by the M1 Ultra chip. Yes, Apple just announced a chip that is even more powerful than the M1 Max. What makes the M1 Ultra special is Apple’s UltraFusion architecture which allows them to fuse two separate M1 Max chips into a single, massive SoC, thanks to the 2.5 terabyte per second inter-processor connection that the M1 Max offers. That means that the M1 Ultra doubles the performance of the M1 Max with 20 CPU cores (16 performance and four efficiency), 64 GPU cores, a 32-core Neural Engine for AI processing, and up to 128GB of RAM. Apple says that the M1 Ultra offers eight times the performance of the regular M1. The Mac Studio looks like a taller version of the Mac mini, despite Apple's claims that it will be even faster than its top of the line Mac Pro which still sounds absolutely wild. The chassis is 3.7 inches tall with a length and width of 7.7 inches; Apple says it “fits perfectly under most displays” and will remain quiet even under heavy workloads, which isn't hard to believe if you've used an M1 Pro or M1 Max MacBook Pro. You've got an excellent array of ports here too. The Mac Studio is also compatible with Apple’s new Studio Display, an external monitor that was also unveiled today. The Studio Display has a 27-inch 5K screen that can reach 600 nits of brightness and also includes a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera built-in that supports CenterStage - the same feature for video calls that we've seen on the iPad line where the camera can follow you around and move to include multiple people.
