Description: Abandoned Soviet jet train. Soviet Jet Train Able To Reach 160MPH Was Supposed To Change The Future. The idea to create a jet-powered train came to Soviet designers in the late 1960s. In 1971, a prototype locomotive was built, which was equipped with two turbojet engines. The experimental carriage was used only for research, but some seriously believed that such trains were the future. There has always been interest in high-speed trains in the USSR. Back in the 1930s, several experimental trains were created at the Kolomna plant, which with 4 cars were able to reach a speed of 170 km / h. In the late 1960s, designers came up with the idea to develop a train that would not push off the ground, but "from the air." This is how the project of a high-speed laboratory car was born, which was named "VNIIV-Speed". The development was attended by employees of VNIIV and the Design Bureau of Aviation Technology A.S. Yakovleva. One prototype was created at the Kalinin Carriage Works (now TVZ). The design speed was 250 km / h, which he reached during the tests. This was not the world's first jet car. Earlier, in 1966, the American company New York Central tested a car named M-497, which had two General Electric engines from a J-47 aircraft. The Soviet laboratory car was intended primarily for research purposes, so many measuring instruments were installed in it. The locomotive was to become an experimental platform for checking the rails and wheels when the train was moving at high speeds. Such a train was supposed to be used on the Moscow - Leningrad route. #train #jettrain #abandoned #ussr #soviet
