Description: Welcome to episode 4 of the ATC 90 restoration. In this episode im going to be concentrating on stripping the engine down and inspecting for any damage or wear. The first job on my list for this episode was to make a quick engine stand so that i could work on the engine without it rolling all over the bench. It was simply a case of cutting some steel box section into lengths welding them together measuring the hole centres drilling them out welding on the top plate and then giving it all a nice coat of paint to protect it from rust. Once the engine was mounted tot he stand i could get on with doing a compression test before taking the head off. I removed the throttle valve from the carb so that when i am testing the engine is getting wide open throttle. As you saw from the video the test came in at 78psi which is very low so low that the engine might not even run or if it did it would have very little torque. so after the test was done i set about stripping the engine down to its component form these was easy enough with all the correct tools and pullers ect and there were no real issues found apart from the low compression but thats easily fixed. I then set about getting all the oil and mud cleaned from the casings with the help of my parts washer, then when clean and dry i put them into the sand blaster and blasted off all the old paint and years of oxidation which left the casing lovely and fresh if not a little dull but i had a plan for that. To sort out the dull casings that would have originally been vapor blasted i polished them up with a soft wire wheel and as you can see from the video it leaves a lovely bright shine without damaging the casings and is the perfect substitute if you dont have access to a vapor blasting set up. I then sat the polished items aside and set about prepping the other items for paint that meant a thorough degreasing, masking up any areas i dont want paint on or in and finally loading the parts into the spray booth. I then set about priming the parts i used a light grey on the silver casings and black on the barrel as it always makes sense to use a light coloured primer under a light colour for 2 reasons one is for coverage and shade of colour and second for stone chips so they wont be as visible. once the primer was dry i checked for any defects which there were one of so i could proceed to base coat silver then a nice coat of scratch resistant clear. Then as usual my ending shots to show the progress ive made. Next episode will be an in depth build up of the engine so i hope to see you all there. I hope you enjoyed the video Stay Tuned and i will see you all again soon. RRC ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A new addition to my videos from now on will be a water mark and my channel name popping up in random places throughout the video as im getting rather tired of people re-uploading my content as their own i hope you guys understand.
