Description: The session opened with David Stirling talking about dōTERRA’s journey to Somaliland. After explaining the company’s commitment to the sustainable sourcing of Frankincense, and our need to support our harvesting communities, David invited Dr. Russell Osguthorpe to the stage. Dr. Osguthorpe spoke about the critical need of healthcare services in Somaliland and the work that went into building the Sanaag Specialty Hospital in such a remote region. He then introduced the audience to a remarkable woman they had met along the journey—Edna Adan Ismail. Edna has lived a life of firsts. As a young woman, she was trained as a nurse-midwife in London, England. Upon graduating, she chose to return to Somaliland to serve her people, becoming the country’s first nurse-midwife. Later, she became the first female Foreign Minister of Somaliland, rubbing shoulders with presidents and other world leaders. After retiring, she dedicated her life to healthcare and social development in her country. Today, she runs a training hospital, working to bring healthcare to the people of Somaliland and the surrounding countries. Joining David Stirling and Dr. Osguthorpe on stage, Edna talked about how she was introduced to dōTERRA when Sheldon Wardwell, dōTERRA’s Strategic Sourcing Manager in the region, came to her office and asked to borrow some textbooks for a new hospital being built. Their friendship grew from that moment on and Edna became a powerful friend and ally for dōTERRA’s work in the region. “I am so grateful that you have built a hospital in my country,” she said. “If a hospital ever needed to be built somewhere, it is where doTERRA built it. On behalf of my people, I say thank you.” When asked about her dream for Somaliland, her response was education, especially for women and girls. She talked about the need for access to schools, institutions, and opportunities. Throughout her remarks, she emphasized the need for equal opportunities for men and women. At the conclusion of her remarks, Edna talked about the need for doing things the right way—no shortcuts. Whenever she works with students in her training hospital or sees former students elsewhere, she always says, “Show me your hands.” To her, clean hands are a sign of a medical professional’s readiness to work. This idea was carried through the remainder of the general session as speakers discussed the need for everyone to show up ready to serve and work with their (healing) hands. -------------------------------------- For more information on doTERRA®, follow us at: → Facebook: bit.ly/3nRpZw0 → Instagram: bit.ly/39mafc1 → Pinterest: bit.ly/3AusiZv → Blog: bit.ly/3zrtRpZ → Twitter: bit.ly/3EyAAC1 → doTERRA News: bit.ly/3F0eCrT
