Day 2: My Money My Way Mini-Lesson: Financial Awareness 1. Understand your starting point. 2. Track Your Spending. 3. Use the highlighter method to organize your expenses. ---- Your Homework: 1. Manually track your spending for an entire month. If you don’t want to wait, pull out all of your statements from the previous month. 2. Using different highlighter colors, highlight “like” transactions. For example, highlight all of your food transactions in green, all of your gas purchases in yellow, etc. 3. Add up all of your highlighter colors for each category. For example, add up all of the yellow purchases, and assign that color a budget category name. Add up all of the green purchases, and repeat. 4.
