Description: Casper The White Lion and his three 'Shish' Brothers - Footloose, Casanova and Mfowethu - must be the most famous Lion Coalition currently in the world. Casper is one of only three White Lions currently alive in the wild. The other two are a young male and female from the Birmingham Pride found at the Ngala Private Game Reserve to the west of Kruger National Park close to Orpen Gate in South Africa. Casper and Brothers were born around June 2014 from the Shishangaan Pride in Kruger National Park. The coalition has taken over The Satara Pride recently and two sets of cubs were born. Unfortunately the cubs are NOT white. White lions are a rare color mutation of the African lion. They are not albino; they are leucistic, which is lack of dark pigmentation. They get their coloring from a recessive gene known as a color inhibitor. To produce a white lion, BOTH parents must possess the recessive gene. Maybe we will see a white cub in the near future?
