Description: In the series premiere of Manga VS Movie, we're looking at the differences between the Oldboy manga, and the Oldboy film from 2003. Manga VS Movie is a new series with the goal of finding the very best, and absolute worst live-action manga adaptations. To do this we need to dive deep into both versions to figure out what's the same, what's different, and which version of the two stories is best. To truly decide if an adaptation is worth your time, I've also developed a rating system which you can read below: The rating system I've developed is out of 10. Which will be based on how the adaptation matches up to the source material in multiple different ways. 5 points for adapting the characters correctly, as getting the characters right is one of, if not the most important part of any adaptation. This goes for the main characters, side characters, and the antagonists if there are any. 3 points for how the story relates to the source material. The story does not have to be a perfect match by any means, As I do understand writers need to condense what is usually a long and drawn out concept into only a few hours, however, I am looking for at least a few similar elements of the original plot within the film. I'm also looking to see if the story, in particular, is accessible to both fans of the manga, and casual viewers alike. And finally 2 points for how it holds up as both a film and as an adaptation. As we could very well be looking at a very good film, but just not a good adaptation from the original source material. there will obviously be many factors that decide my final verdict on most these points, but I feel this way we can accurately rank these films as we cover more throughout the series. _________________________________________________________________ Since this is the very first installment, be sure to give me your feedback so I can make these better for the future!
