Description: "Woodstock" was written by @Joni Mitchell and first recorded by her on her April 1970 album, “Ladies of the Canyon.” The song has been covered by numerous artists over the years including one of the best known versions by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young who included the song on their album, “Déjá Vu.” James Taylor has performed “Woodstock” many times in recent years including several tribute performances for Joni Mitchell herself. Recent performances have included Joni’s 1997 induction into the @Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the 2007 ceremony in Toronto celebrating “Woodstock” and Joni’s induction into the @Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame / Panthéon des auteurs et compositeurs canadiens (CSHF / PACC); and his most recent public performance which also was televised: “Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration Live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. @Seal sang harmony with James on that performance. LYRICS Woodstock by Joni Mitchell I came upon a child of God He was walking along the road And I asked him, "Where are you going?" And this he told me "I'm going on down to Yasgur's farm I'm gonna join in a rock 'n' roll band I'm gonna camp out on the land I'm gonna try an' get my soul free" We are stardust We are golden And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden "Then can I walk beside you? I have come here to lose the smog And I feel to be a cog in something turning" "Well, maybe it is just the time of year Or maybe it's the time of man I don't know who l am But you know, life is for learning" We are stardust We are golden And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden By the time we got to Woodstock We were half a million strong And everywhere, there was song and celebration And I dreamed I saw the bombers Riding shotgun in the sky And they were turning into butterflies Above our nation We are stardust Billion year old carbon We are golden Caught in the devil's bargain And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden #JamesTaylor #JT #Woodstock 🎵 NEW ALBUM 🎵 found.ee/JTAmericanStandard 🌟 FOLLOW JAMES ON SOCIAL 🌟 facebook.com/JamesTaylor instagram.com/jamestaylor_com twitter.com/jamestaylor_com 🌐 VISIT THE WEBSITE 🌐 jamestaylor.com ✉️ JOIN THE MAILING LIST ✉️ jamestaylor.com/mailinglist 🎸 FREE GUITAR LESSONS BY JAMES 🎸 youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4C7B31793C012820
