Description: Designer Amy Elbaum of AE Design gives Rick Spence a tour of the open-plan great room in her recently renovated 1960s ranch home in Sherman Oaks, California. In the family room, a built-in cabinet system spans an entire wall, providing storage for kids’ toys and display space for antiques. A long pillowy sofa and two armchairs create a comfortable spot for watching TV. In the kitchen, Elbaum took down a wall and added a structural beam to open the space to the family room and fit a large island. Warm greige cabinets (Mindful Gray by Sherwin-Williams) and a small-scale white tile backsplash in a herringbone pattern create classic, inviting style.
