I remember writing it and being upset about a situation with a past relationship and thinking…all i want right now is to be left alone and I don’t think there’s a nice way to say this, all I want right now is for this person to “Get a Life’ that doesn’t include me in it. Sometimes we have to speak what’s on our mind even if it’s not in the most nice or polite way, otherwise all the negative feelings and emotions pile up and can make us literally ill. I was quite surprised myself when these words ”Get a life” came out of my mouth & the producer Chris Reece whom I wrote the song with looked at me with a half smile not understanding if It was a joke or was I for real…but I was set on not sugarcoating it. I felt tension and anger that had to be freed. I kept hearing in my head the same voice over and over again saying “You don’t belong here” Simple and repetitive but just like a mantra…freeing at the same time. I thought to myself if anyone out there is going through a break-up maybe this type of mantra can help them, too.
