Each chord pattern should come across as dreamy and open sounding. Once these effects are combined, the resulting sound will be soothing to your listener. In order to round out your chords with a smooth, well-connected flowing sound, you need to fill in the gaps of what is lacking on each picked passage. This can be done in several ways including; a slowed tempo, steady eight-note rhythm and by applying open strings around fretted notes, (chord voicings). These elements are all perfect examples to focus on. Using these examples (that songs in the style of romantic guitar will tend to employ), will help you notice that the guitar’s performance needs to offer the listener a steady feel with an even balance of the rhythmic & melodic flow. Take a close look at each chord movement in the lesson’s example progression. Notice how the upper chord tones move in a melodic way to create a strong foundation for the music.
