Description: We've driven the new GTI already, but it's the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R we care most about and now we get to drive it! And I'm happy to report that it lives up to all we'd hoped... minus that one sore spot in the cabin. But put that aside for a minute because everything else about it is pretty darn great. Under the hood sits a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. You can pair that with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. And power is sent out to all four wheels. But Volkswagen wants you to have fun here, so amongst the different driving modes is one for dialing in a bit of oversteer if you can. That would be Drift mode, and you also have a Special mode which is modeled after setting fast laps at the Nürburgring. This is a lot of car that's still extremely usable on a daily basis.
