Berklee Online course author Bleu McAuley guides you through another of the key aspects of production: the high-pass filter. Why use a high-pass filter? Well, for starters, if you’re wondering what’s muddying up your mix, it’s most likely all of the low-end information going on around your tracks. Although you may occasionally want some of that low end (for your bass or your kick drum), most of the time it just adds an unwanted mess to your sound. A high-pass filter is when you set a threshold that eliminates all the sound that goes below it. In this video we’ll take a look on how and when to effectively use a high pass filter on your tracks.
