Description: Team USA basketball has not looked like itself in the Olympics and here's the real reason why. #Olympics #Basketball Twitch- twitch.tv/mjallday2k Second Channel Vid- youtube.com/channel/UCZWAssCaz6YHMXGziCKtdPw Discord- discord.gg/RSUxXmU Tik Tok- vm.tiktok.com/wfx5vW REACTION CHANNEL: youtube.com/watch?v=VQRMHGayBNY&t=516s The OUTRO song is OUT!: youtube.com/watch?v=-SUYj3SUdUw Instagram- @MJ2K_ALLDAY Twitter- @mj2kallday Hold up, Team USA lost? Y'all realize that's the first time they lost in the Olympics since 2004. Losing exhibition games ain't supposed to matter that much either...that is until you realize that USA had went 54-1 in exhibition games since 1992. And this year they lost 2. Like what am I watching? Talent only goes so far. I mean there's gotta be a reason that players who played in the Olympics on Team USA talked about adjusting to international play. But the NBA has turned into an offensive hungry league, it’s why Luka said it was easier to score in the NBA. And how you can argue with that, man literally is top 6 in scoring, what an L for the NBA. When you watch previous years of Team USA, it's not the offense that blows me away, it's nice don't get me wrong. It's the defense. A lot of the players on Team USA tend to be stars who are athletic and smart and because of their offensive roles in NBA teams, they can't put as much effort defensively. Well, that ain't a problem on Team USA and so you saw players being active on defense, making it a nightmare to try to beat USA with just one player. Coach K would have Team USA running a press or a 1-3-1 zone, essentially defense was a real focus. A lot of the players on the 2012 team were 2 way players or at least average on defense. But now defense is an afterthought. The best players aren't required to play defense, or don't know how to rotate. What the f*** is this? I'm being serious. Offensively, players just banged. They weren't complaining. But today's league is different because of foul hunting. Foul hunting is a skill that is rewarded by the NBA. The NBA has emphasized freedom of movement and well, that messed everything up. Sort of, well lemme explain. You know in pick up basketball how there's more contact, the defense can actually body players up without it being a foul. That's what international play allows. It allows players to actually bump without it being a foul. It’s why Luka said it was easier to score in the NBA. For one, a big man can stay in the paint indefinitely, no 3 second rule, 2, defenses are more coordinated, and 3, they can use their hands more. You can see it physically bothering players who are used to complaining to refs and eventually getting their calls. Don't hate the player for it working, hate the game for allowing it to work. Transition basketball has been a strength for Team USA over the years, but that came from strong defense. And without a strong defense, you're missing out on an easy 10-15 points per game that Team USA would get. If you're blaming Kevin Durant, look at Team USA in 2010 that went 11-0 and look at that team. It's not KD. It's the game that NBA has made. Think about the incentive structure the NBA has. Which players get paid the most? Is it the defensive players like Marcus Smart or is it a guy that can average above 15 points a game like Spencer Dinwiddie? Players get more minutes if they can contribute offensively, defense only goes so far. But let's also not forget other countries and how they have progressed. Jxmyhighroller made this point and I agree. You can make the argument that the rest of the world has gotten significantly better. Each year, more and more international players are amongst the top 20 players in our league. The MVP and finals MVP were both international players. Like Kobe said to Team USA... Kobe's a great example of how international basketball focuses on the fundamentals, how basketball is at its purest abroad. It's what teams play better than a sum of its parts. It's not the flashy, it's what is effective. The issue aren't the players themselves. It's what the game has become. The incentives are skewed and USA is no longer so far ahead to overcome that. They need to take a hard look at themselves in the mirror, get off their high horses, and get in the grind.
