Description: The Jetsons : This self cleaning and 3D Printed 4.8 KM Tall Skyscraper Will Be The World's Tallest Ever by 2062. Arconic is an American scientific engineering company that recently presented its vision of the city of the future. It has developed a new 4.8 km high skyscraper concept that incorporates 3D printing in manufacturing and self-cleaning materials. The project is called Les Jetsons, recalling the animated series of the 60s featuring the family of the future. The American company is largely inspired to create skyscrapers and flying cars. Arconic skyscrapers have three basic characteristics: the organic facades have been printed in 3D in several materials, their coating allows their self-washing and the windows can turn into a balcony in less than a minute. Sherri McCleary, Director Materials and Processing Technologies at Arconic, says the main benefit of using 3D printing is that it can create very strong and complex structures that can withstand different climates and extreme winds. The company says, however, that much remains to be done in terms of printing materials: they are not enough today to build a skyscraper of this size. "We are looking to optimize the materials that can be printed in 3D to offer more and more opportunities to architects and designers. Says McCleary. In addition to the role of 3D printing in this project, McCleary also emphasizes the importance of self-cleaning building coatings that would purify indoor air inside the skyscraper. The best known of Arconic is EcoClean which was launched in 2011 and which offers several advantages in terms of aesthetics, maintenance and environmental impact.
