Description: Trae Young has been balling in the NBA, other stars have not. Trae's been proving a lot of people wrong. #NBA #Hawks #Trae Even after the rule change where certain rules were implemented to stop Trae from drawing fouls. Trae is showing that he took advantage of rules because he could, not because he needed to. In fact if we just look at where he is in the NBA, he's averaging more points and assists than Luka at a better efficiency and just in the past 7 games, he's averaging 29.6 points and 10.6 assists on only 6.6 free throw attempts a game, shooting 49% from the field, 42.6% from 3. Trae is shooting better than last year too while shooting less free throws. But he's a rare breed because most of the top foul drawers from last year are doing significantly worse. I want to emphasize how much the NBA community got on Trae Young last year, especially in the playoffs. Not an All-Star cause of foul baiting. Yeah it was like that. So the apology needs to be just as loud. Trae was 4th in the league in free throw attempts per game last season, now he's 14th. This is interesting because Trae has managed to up production offensively when so many other stars haven't. The other poster boy for rule changes, James Harden has dramatically reduced his scoring by 3 and a half points from last season and almost by 14 points just 2 seasons ago. In fact, in all of Harden's games under 9 free throw attempts a game, he's only scored above 20 points once...it's actually that bad. In fact, if we take the 20 highest free throw attempters from the last season and look at their stats, Trae is one of only 4 players in this list that has upped his points. The rules aren't necessarily just about taking free throws away, it's allowing a more physical brand of basketball, trying to take away foul hunting and so for offensive players, certain options are taken away which can impact their entire game. Excluding Dame who has just struggled, period we can look at other scorers like Bradley Beal who is averaging 8.7 less points. Of course this isn't the entire picture or all the context, but the idea that Trae would be one of those that struggles with the rule change was just completely wrong. **Trae's just gone back to what worked instead of trying to get the same calls from last year. Like right here, instead of slowing down and then shooting as soon as he feels contact, he continue going and focuses on giving Capela enough time to roll to force the defender to make a decision.** Trae Young is also really quick, he's just blowing by defenders. While he can still slow down and control he pace, Trae has focused on blowing by defenders rather than snaking his way through, he's avoiding contact and it's working. And he's making deep 3s. At a better rate than before. Trae's had the range, he's had all the types of footwork, left right, right foot first then left, whatever you want. He's shooting 40% on 30+ footers, having shot 1.9 30+ footers a game. That opens the floor up and forces defenders to play him much higher. But Trae's best trait in my opinion since he's come into the league has been his passing. His ability to create for others and find the lob, the kickout, the cutter, his ability to thread passes is really elite. Combined with his speed, he's just zipping passes through. He has the 4th highest usage rate in the league, he's logging in heavy minutes pretty much doing everything for the Hawks except defend. But that ain't new. The Hawks are struggling defensively. I may want to focus on how the rule change has actually changed the NBA in another video but I think we can all agree that the game is better for these changes and Trae is just hooping. But what do you think? Where does Trae rank amongst all guards?
