Description: Let’s debunk another fake science experiment! This time we’ll be looking at whether Vitamin C can turn coke transparent. In viral videos, it appears this is true, but this is a lie! They’ve swapped out the coke for iodine water, which is a similar colour to coke. To make Iodine water, you need to add about 1 tbsp of Iodine to half a litre of water. When you add half of a tsp of vitamin c, it splits the Iodine molecules into colourless ions resulting in the brown liquid changing into a clear one! But we can use real science to make the colour return by adding six tbsp of hydrogen peroxide and one scoop of starch. I added a bit of water to the glass just to make it easier to mix. Three colourless Iodine ions combine with one starch molecule, which returns them to their original colour. When you add Vitamin C to authentic coke, the chemical reaction is completely different and similar to when you put mentos in! This science experiment is fake!
