Description: Archaeologist Tate Paulette takes a journey back in time to Mesopotamia, one of the world's first great beer cultures. Using cuneiform texts and artistic and archaeological evidence, Paulette explores how Mesopotamians brewed their beer and enjoyed drinking in taverns, on the job, and at feasts and festivals. He ends with recent efforts to recreate Mesopotamian brews. This program was presented as part of the museum’s Bacchus Uncorked program series that explores art, wine (sometimes beer), and culture in the ancient world. Download our recommendations on contemporary beers with Mesopotamian characteristics. getty.edu/360/event_images/mesobeer.pdf This program was presented via Zoom on Saturday, July 24, 2021. getty.edu/visit/cal/events/ev_3332.html This program complements the exhibition "Mesopotamia: Civilization Begins" at the Getty Villa Museum. getty.edu/art/exhibitions/mesopotamia Subscribe to the Getty Museum YouTube channel: youtube.com/user/gettymuseum?sub_confirmation=1 #GettyMuseum #Mesopotamia #Cuneiform
