Shyamero chalaave naina teer, teer re Mohana chalaave naina teer, Shyamero chalaave naina teer Mero Shyam (4x) The video begins by showing the singer Vijay Krsna, as a practitioner of bhakti, calling out the sacred names of the divine on the banks of the Yamuna River at Keshi Ghat in Vrindavan. This is followed by scenes of a gopi, a Vrindavan cowherd maiden village woman (played by Malini Taneja) having encounters with Krishna (Rasika Dasi). In the first scene, the gopi collects water from the Yamuna River. While doing so, Krishna splashes water in her face. She is surprised and at the same time so happy to be in the presence of Krishna, but just as soon as He appears, He quickly disappears and to the gopi it seems as though it could have all been a dream. The next scene shows the gopi churning yoghurt. Krishna comes from behind and yanks her dupatta (cloth garment) from her head. Again, she is both shocked and amused. In the third scene, the gopi is maddened by Krishna’s flute playing and desperately searches for Him to no avail. For both the devotee (Vijay) and the gopi (Malini), there is a sense of longing, a mood of separation from the divine beloved. The video ends with a quote from a Gaudiya Vaisnava bhajan called ‘Bandhu Sange’ written by an anonymous author that was inspired by the writings of Srila Rupa Goswami, a 15th century poet saint of bhakti-rasa and an expounder on the glories of Vrindavan. The verse quoted herein warns people from coming to Vrindavan and hearing the flute playing of Krishna, because once one is enchanted by the all Attractive One, one’s life will never be the same again. When: The project was filmed in the winter of 2017 and additional footage was captured in January 2019. Where: Vrindavan, India (specifically, Kesi Ghat, Man Sarovara, and Belvan areas) Why: This video is a dramatic presentation of the longing in separation from the Divine Absolute, Krishna. The desire of the devotee to meet with Him in sweet union is the basis for bhakti yoga. This video presents performing kirtan in loving separation as the means in which one can finally meet with the Supreme in one’s internal absorption of consciousness. Within kirtan, all realization and relationship of the Self and the Divine can be experienced in a very personal and visceral way.
