Description: MUSIC TEACHING TIPS: This is a variation of how to play "Lucy Locket" where students pass the pocket on the beat. At the end of the song ("only ribbon round IT") the person with the pocket puts it behind their back. Everyone else in the circle also puts their hands behind their back, and the person in the middle gets three changes to guess who they think has the pocket. The person in the middle chooses the next person to guess. (This works better than having the person with the pocket be the next guesser, because then they will be reluctant to pass it.) You can also sing "Who has the pocket?" and "I have the pocket" to provide the opportunity for solo singing. On a historical note, pockets did not used to be part of clothing but were like a purse; they were tied around the waist under a layer of clothing to keep precious posessions and money safe, but could fall off if the knot came undone. The words are "Lucy locket lost her pocket/Kitty Fisher found it/Not a penny was there in it/Only ribbon round it." This is great for kindergarten and first grade (elementary school).
